Appearance of the term "law": Proverbs

Do you Love the Torah?
Do you know what the Proverbs says about the law?

Solomon wrote the majority of the Proverbs and he; before he walked in a way that was wrong was considered to be one of the wisest men. 1 Kings 4:29;34 says:

                        "And God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and
                        largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore...And men of all nations, from all
                        the kings of the earth who had heart of his wisdom, came to heart the wisdom of
                        Solomon."

There are only thirteen (13) passages in the Proverbs that specifically mention the law. I would like to point out that the term Torah is grammatically feminine. I say this because wisdom is referred to as a "she" in the Proverbs.

156. Turn to (Proverbs 1:8)  

            "My sonH1121, hear the instructionH4148 of your father, and do not forsakeH5203 the
           
lawH8451 of your mother; for they will be a graceful ornament on your heart, and chains
            about your neck."

            instruction:      H4148 (מוּסר) mûsâr moo-sawr'. From H3256; properly chastisement;
                                    figuratively
reproof, warning or instruction; also restraint: - bond,
                                    chastening ([-eth]), chastisement, check,
correction, discipline, doctrine,
                                    instruction, rebuke.

                                    H3256 (יסר ) yâsar yaw-sar'. A primitive root; to chastise, literally (with
                                    blows) or figuratively (with words); hence
to instruct: - bind, chasten,
                                   
chastise, correct, instruct, punish, reform, reprove, sore, teach.

            forsake:           H5203 ( )נטשׁs naw-tash'. A primitive root; properly to pound, that is,
                                    smite; by implication (as if beating out, and thus expanding) to disperse;
                                    also,
to thrust off, down, out or upon (including reject, let alone, permit,
                                    remit, etc.): -
cast off, drawn, let fall, forsake, join [battle], leave (off), lie
                                    still, loose, spread (self) abroad, stretch out, suffer.

            law:                 H8451 (תּרה תּורה ) to-raw', to-raw'. From H3384; a precept or statute,
                                    especially
the Decalogue or Pentateuch: - law.

G3551: The term for LAW or LAWS is ABSENT!!!

 LXX:               ἄκουε, υἱέ, παιδείαν πατρός σου καὶ μὴ ἀπώσῃ θεσμοὺς μητρός σου·

The translators again resort to translation bias
        choosing instead another word which doesn't direct
the attention of the reader to the Torah.

Instead they use the Greek term "tesmous" translated "rules" in some texts which isn't even tied to the Strong's with a coded number.

If we do a word study on instruction H4148 (which I would strongly recommend you do) you will find that it appears 50 times in the Hebrew TanaK. 

One of the most important is the following from Job 5:17:

            "Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; therefore do not despise the chastening of
            the Almighty."

157. Please turn to Proverbs 3:1:

            "My son, do not forgetH7911 my law, but let your heart keep my commandsH6487
            for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you."

            forget:             H7911 (שׁכח שׁכח) shaw-kakh', shaw-kay'-akh A primitive root; to mislay,
                                    that is, to be oblivious of, from want of memory or attention: - X at all,
                                    (cause to) forget.
  
            commands:      H6487 (מצוה) mits-vaw'. From H6680; a command, whether human or
                                     divine (collectively the Law): - (which was) commanded (-ment), law,
                                    ordinance, precept.

What is shameful is the number of Christians who are actually oblivious of what the Proverbs and Psalms say about the Torah and how we are to respond to it. We are not to be oblivious of the Torah and I suggest to you that if God's law is in fact written upon your heart that you will desire to keep the instructions given to us by (HFHI) through His servant Moses.

158. Next is Proverbs 4:2:


                        "For I give you goodH2896 doctrineH3948 do not forsake my lawH8451." 

            good:               H2986 (טוב ) ṭôb tobe. From H2895; good (as an adjective) in the widest
                                    sense; used likewise as a noun, both in the masculine and the feminine, the
                                     singular and the plural (good, a good or good thing, a good man or
                                    woman; the good, goods or good things, good men or women), also as an
                                    adverb (well): - beautiful, best, better, bountiful, cheerful, at ease, X fair
                                    (word), (be in) favour, fine, glad, good (deed, -lier, liest, -ly, -ness, -s),
                                    graciously, joyful, kindly, kindness, liketh (best), loving, merry, X most,
                                    pleasant, + pleaseth, pleasure, precious, prosperity, ready, sweet, wealth,
                                    1welfare, (be) well ([-favoured]).

            doctrine:          H3948 (לקח) leqach leh'-kakh. From H3947; properly something received,
                                    that is, (mentally) instruction (whether on the part of the teacher or
                                    hearer); also (in an active and sinister sense) inveiglement: - doctrine,
                                    learning, fair speech.

159. Turn with me to now to Proverbs 6:23:

                        "For the commandmentH4687 is a lampH5216, and the lawH8451 a lightH216;
                        reproofsH8433 of instructionH4148 are the wayH1817 of lifeH2416..."

commandment:           H4687 (מצוה) i s mits-vaw'. From H6680; a command, whether human or
                                    divine (collectively the Law): - (which was) commanded (-ment), law,
                                    ordinance, precept.

            lamp:               H5216 (נרה    נר    ניר    נר    ניר) nı̂yr  nir  nêyr  nêr  nêrâh
                                    pronounced "
neer, neer, nare, nare, nay-raw.'" From a primitive root
                                    (see
H5214 and H5135) properly meaning to glisten; a lamp (that is, the
                                    burner) or light (literally or figuratively): - candle, lamp, light.

            law:                 H8451 (תּרה    תּורה) tôrâh  tôrâh to-raw', to-raw' From H3384;
                                    a precept or statute, especially the Decalogue or Pentateuch: - law.

                                    G3551 (νομου  :  nomou)

            light:                H216 (אור) 'ôr ore From H215; illumination or (concretely) luminary (in
                                    every sense, including lightning, happiness, etc.): - bright, clear, + day,
                                    light (-ning), morning, sun.

                                    H215 (אור) 'ôr ore A primitive root; to be (causatively make) luminous
                                   
(literally and metaphorically): - X break of day, glorious, kindle, (be, en-,
                                    give, show) light (-en, -ened), set on fire, shine.

            reproofs:          H8433 (תּוכחת תּוכחה) to-kay-khaw', to-kakh'-ath. From H3198;
                                    chastisement; figuratively (by words) correction, refutation, proof (even in
                                    defence): - argument, X chastened, correction, reasoning, rebuke, reproof,
                                    X be (often) reproved.

                                    H3198 (יכח) yâkach pronounced "yaw-kakh.'" A primitive root; to be right
                                    (that is, correct); reciprocally to argue; causatively to decide, justify or
                                    convict: - appoint, argue, chasten, convince, correct (-ion), daysman,
                                    dispute, judge, maintain, plead, reason (together), rebuke, reprove (-r),
                                    surely, in any wise.

            instruction:      H4148 (מוּסר) mûsâr pronounced moo-sawr'. From H3256; properly
                                    chastisement; figuratively reproof, warning or instruction; also restraint: -
                                   
bond, chastening ([-eth]), chastisement, check, correction, discipline,
                                    doctrine, instruction, rebuke.

                                    H3256 (יסר) yâsar pronounced "yaw-sar.'" A primitive root; to chastise,
                                    literally (with blows) or figuratively (with words); hence to instruct: -
                                   
bind, chasten, chastise, correct, instruct, punish, reform, reprove, sore,
                                    teach.

            way:                H1817 (דּרך) derek deh'-rek. From H1869; a road (as trodden);
                                    figuratively a course of life or mode of action, often adverbially: - along,
                                    away, because of, + by, conversation, custom, [east-] ward, journey,
                                    manner, passenger, through, toward, [high-] [path-] way [-side],
                                    whither [-soever].

                                    H1869 (דּרך) dârak pronounced "daw-rak.'" A primitive root; to tread; by
                                    implication to walk; also to string a bow (by treading on it in bending): -
                                    archer, bend, come, draw, go (over), guide, lead (forth), thresh, tread
                                    (down), walk.

            life:                  H2416 (חי) chay khah'ee. From H2421; alive; hence raw (flesh); fresh
                                   
(plant, water, year), strong; also (as noun, especially in the feminine
                                    singular and masculine plural) life (or living thing), whether literally or
                                    figuratively: - + age, alive, appetite, (wild) beast, company, congregation,
                                    life (-time), live (-ly), living (creature, thing), maintenance, + merry,
                                    multitude, + (be) old, quick, raw, running, springing, troop.

                                    H2421 (חיה) châyâh pronounced "khaw-yaw.'" A prim root (compare
                                    H2331, H2424); to live, whether literally or figuratively; causatively to
                                    revive: - keep (leave, make) alive, X certainly, give (promise) life, (let,
                                    suffer to) live, nourish up, preserve (alive), quicken, recover, repair,
                                    restore (to life), revive, (X God) save (alive, life, lives), X surely, be
                                    whole.

160. If you would please turn to Proverbs 7:2:

                        "Keep my commands and live, and my lawH8451 as the appleH380 of your eye.
                        Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart."

                        H8451 (ותורתי :  Torah)  G1785 (εντολας  :  entolas)

                        apple of your eye: (H380)  'ı̂yshôn pronounced "ee-shone.'" Diminutive from
                        H376; the little man of the eye; the pupil or ball; hence the middle (of night): -
                        apple [of the eye], black, obscure.

Friends the only way for the TORAH to be the "apple" or pupil of your eye is IF YOU READ IT!!! The INTENTION of EFEI is that His instructions were before our faces as in studying them; reading them; memorizing them; writing them upon our hearts so that we might LEARN to Fear Him.


Christians constantly say the law of God is
written upon their hearts. Why then do they
not obey the instructions of God?

161. Now skip ahead to is Proverbs 13:14:

                        "The lawH8451 of the wise is a fountainH4726 of lifeH2416, to turn away from the
                        snaresH4170 of deathH4194"

                        H8451 (תורת : Torah)  G3551 (νομος  :  nomos)

A fountain of life? Isn't that interesting? In the Hebrew this term for fountain means "a source." The Torah is a source of life? Fascinating! It also enables us to turn away from the snares of death. In the Hebrew this term for snares means "a noose" hook, snare, or trap. Wouldn't you like to know how to avoid these snares?


162. Turn to Proverbs 28:4:

            "Those who forsakeH5800 the lawH8451 praiseH1984 the wickedH7563, but such as keepH8104
            the
lawH8451 contendH1624 with them."

What shocked me the most about this particular passage wasn't that those who forsake the law praise the wicked; but the meaning for "contend." In English the dictionary indicates that it means to strive to combat; fight; to strive in competition (for a prize); to debate or dispute. I was surprised to learn that in the Hebrew it means the following:

            contend:          H1624 (גּרה) gârâh gaw-raw'. A primitive root; properly to grate, that is,
                                    (figuratively) to anger: - contend, meddle, stir up, strive.

Thinking back on times when I was asserting to others that we were to be obeying the law there were some "Christians"; in my own family who became very; very; angry at my assertion. Their anger was like a boiling pot of water; and it troubled me deeply. I was baffled by their hostility. However here it is in the Hebrew clear as day. It angers the wicked when we shed light on their sin; exposing it like a raw nerve to sandpaper.

163. Next is Proverbs 28:7:

            "Whoever keeps the lawH8451 is a discerningH995 son..."

                        H8451 (תורה : Torah)  G3551 (νομον  : nomon)

If a discerning son keeps the Torah
 then wouldn't someone without discernment FAIL to keep the Torah?

This next one is sure to get your attention. Try putting this one on a keychain.

164. (Proverbs 28:9)  

            "One who turns away his ear from hearing the lawH8451, even his prayer is an
            abomination..."

            H8451 (תורה : Torah)  G3551  (νομου  :  nomou)

Don't think this one needs a lot of explanation. I think the English pretty well sums it up.

165. Next is (Proverbs 29:18): I prefer the KJV version

                        "Where there is no visionH2377, the people perishH6544; but he that keepeth the
                       
lawH8451 happy is he"

            vision:             H2377 (חזון) châzôn khaw-zone'. From H2372; a sight (mentally), that is, a
                                    dream,
revelation, or oracle: - vision.

                                    H2372 (חזה) châzâh khaw-zaw. A primitive root; to gaze at; mentally to
                                   
perceive, contemplate (with pleasure); specifically to have a vision of: -
                                   
behold, look, prophesy, provide, see.

            perish:             H6544 (פּרע) pâra‛ paw-rah'. A primitive root; to loosen; by implication to
                                    expose, dismiss; figuratively absolve, begin: - avenge, avoid, bare, go
                                    back, let, (make) naked, set at nought, perish, refuse, uncover.

166. Please turn now to (Proverbs 31:26) which speaks of the virtuous wife:

                        "She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is
the lawH8451 of
                        kindnessH2617."

            kindness:         H2617 (חסד) s d kheh'-sed. From H2616; kindness; by implication
                                    (towards God) piety; rarely (by opprobrium) reproof, or (subjectively)
                                    beauty: - favour, good deed (-liness, -ness), kindly, (loving-) kindness,
                                    merciful (kindness), mercy, pity, reproach, wicked thing.


Does not Messiah was a virtuous Bride? Does He come for a Bride that is spotted and defiled with sinfulness; or, rather does he come for a Bride that is clean; holy; set apart from the world?
Solomon in his wisdom concluded the matter best when he wrote Ecclesiastes 12:13:


"Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear God and keep His commandmentsH4687,
for this is man's all. 
For God will bring every work into judgment,
including every secret thing,
whether good or evil."

From H6680; a command, whether human or divine (collectively the Law) : - (which was) commanded (-ment), law, ordinance, precept.

H6680 (צוה) tsâvâh pronounced "tsaw-vaw.'"
A primitive root; (intensively) to constitute, enjoin: - appoint, (for-) bid. (give a) charge, (give a, give in, send with) command (-er, ment), send a messenger, put, (set) in order.
