To Judge or Not to Judge: Why

Have you ever found yourself in a conversation where you resorted to quoting the Bible to prove a point about what kind of behavior is considered right or wrong? Perhaps you were observing the actions of another human being; and, found them to be offensive; or, morally bankrupt? Maybe you have been a witness to a crime; or, some sort of injustice that rattled you to your core. Could it be that you; like myself, have taken an Ethics course in college where you were told that we shouldn't "judge" others and that truth; or, right and wrong are simply "relative?"

In August of 2012 Homosexuals; and, supporters of Gay marriage took place in a Nationwide boycott of Chick Fil-A because of their stance on Gay Marriage. Just in case you didn't know Chick Fil-A is run by Christians, who because of their religious beliefs that they should not work on the "Lord's Day" are closed on Sunday's. Additionally Dan Cathy the President and COO of Chick Fil-A has openly stated that he opposes same sex marriage. This positional statement drew the ire of those in the lesbian; gay; homosexual; bisexual community and their supporters who sought openly to damage a business because of their religious beliefs. As a Messianic Believer in Messiah I hold to the Biblical Sabbath (Friday at sundown until Saturday night at sundown); and, although I differ in the day of the week I set aside to rest, I love to eat Chick Fil-A. It tastes great and my wife and children love to eat it as well.

Shortly after the very public Chick Fil-A protest I was on Facebook responding to an individual’s assertion that the National food chain Chick-Fil-A was “Bigoted” because they choose not to support Gay marriage. I found myself instructed by someone asserting to be a “Christian” that I would be wise to “Judge not lest you be judged.” I managed to respond to this woman in a way that was instructional and caused her to stop her assault in regards to my response. Since this is a common theme thrown out in opposition to those of us who believe the instructions of Torah to still be intact; and, by opponents of Christianity altogether; let us then test this passage against scripture together. By doing so I trust it will sharpen your skills in dealing with this reckless abuse of the word of God; and, make you more effective at delivering the TRUTH to a world full of lukewarm Christians who are in very serious danger of being spewed out of Messiah’s mouth when He returns. Likewise; let this study serve to help us each to judge if we ourselves are in the faith. If we should find that we are not then let us plead with the LORD (׳הוה) to give us a heart willing to return to Him and walk in the ancient paths.

Grab yourself a cup of coffee; a notepad; your bible; a concordance; open up E-Sword if you have it and prepare to dig into the word of God. Ready? Awesome. Let's get started.
