Hi!! I have really enjoyed your writings. You mentioe in one of the chapters that you would also write about the different uses of the word Law in the NT.
ReplyDeleteIs Nomos g3551 the only Greek word used for Law in the original transcripts? So you have a teaching on this?
Kristen I will be having a chapter on the "law" and how it appears. That will be Chapter 20 "What's Up with the LAW." Currently it is not in a publishable format. It took me over three years to examine each and every passage from Genesis to Revelation that has the term "law" in English. I compared the LXX (Greek Translation of the Old Testament) against the Hebrew TaNaK; along with the Greek New Testament.
DeleteThere are actually eight (8) different variations of the Greek ROOT nomos used in the LXX Greek OT and the Greek NT which are rendered as "law" in English. Although they all have the same ROOT G3551 Nomos which shows in the concordance if you go an physically examine each and every passage as I have done you will find out that they are not all "nomos" but are one of the eight (variations) and NOT always "nomos" as we have been led to believe by Strong's.
The Devil is in the details and he has managed to infiltrate our study tools to keep the masses ignorant including those who go to Seminary to learn to teach. There is a difference between all these terms; and, the difference is there for a reason.
Two of the terms NEVER appear in the New Testament. Two of them are NEVER used to refer to the Torah itself. Only ONE variant can be said to ALWAYS be referring to "LAW" the other three (3) are used in such a broad way that it can mean ANY LAW. To include Roman law; and, ORAL LAW which is what Paul was railing against. Sadly most of Christianity is completely ignorant about Oral law and what it in it because their Pastors are completely ignorant about it as well.
If you don't know WHICH variation is used in the text you can really come to the wrong conclusion. In fact there is a passage in Galatians where Paul uses three different variations of nomos. Unfortunately we are told to STUDY to show ourselves approved and most do NOT study. They are simply satisfied with reading; or, glossing over a passage rapidly because they heard an answer from their pastor that was sufficient for their own itching ears rather than really digging for the truth. If you shoot me an email at hswinc@gmail.com I'll send you my notes if you want to dive in. Shalom.
Sorry, so many typos!! I am trying to find out if the original manuscripts use Nomos for every form of Law.
ReplyDeleteI know that it is not always Torah, for instance- the Law of sin and death is not Torah.
Kristen, I haven't posted anything in a while. However, I'm in the midst of reading a book "Judaism-Revelation of Moses; or, Religion of Men." I have to say it's THE BEST book I've read about the stark differences between Judaism (Talmudism) vs. What Yeshua was directing us towards. A WAY OF LIFE. Hence "the Way of the LORD." I STRONGLY recommend reading it. I wish I had read it ten (10) years ago. You can download a PDF from the LINK I placed on the "Books to Read" page of my website.
DeleteIn the TaNaK there is more that one Hebrew word which we see rendered as "Law" I'll be covering this in my chapter on the Law.
