Chapter 10: Playing the Grace Card

About eighteen months ago I purchased a new Cambridge limited spiral notebook with a leather hardcover to begin a study about "untaught" and "untrained." In it I began with verse sixteen (16) of the passage we have been dissecting (2 Peter 3:16-18 in earlier chapters). I wrote out the passage within my notebook; highlighting certain terms; and, phrases that I wanted to investigate. Then I wrote myself a list of questions which I have shared with you below.

  • What is the Biblical definition of "righteousness?"
  • Is there behavior or simply a "belief system" that distinguishes the "righteous" from the "wicked?"
  • Does the Bible indicate certain behavior for those who are referred to as "blameless?
  • What does the Bible say about Wisdom?
  • From where does "wisdom" come?
  • Is there anything specific that distinguishes the "wise" from the "foolish?"
  • Notice Peter refers to all of what Paul has written as "epistles" and not as "Scripture(s)"
  • Does the Bible indicate what is/are Scripture(s) by quoting it? Or by specifically identifying what is Scripture(s)?
  • What does it mean to be "untaught" according to Scripture?
  • Does the Bible indicate we are to be "taught" something?
  • What does it mean to be "unlearned" according to Scripture?
  • Does the Bible indicate we are to "learn" something?
  • What; or, how was Paul trained that others who are untaught; or, unlearned were not?
  • What does the Bible say about "instability" or "stability?"

Hopefully many of these questions have been answered for you as they have been for me. Perhaps you too are interested in knowing with 100% certainty why you are "under grace" and no longer "under the law" as I did.

Perhaps you were having difficulty reconciling passages that indicate clearly we are to be Torah Observant with those used to teach we are no longer "under" that "burden."

My desire is that my own journey will benefit you and help you to understand what; and, why you believe what you do. Perhaps it will point out some serous inconsistencies in your own belief system or what you have been taught.

Perhaps it will clarify; or, serve to further bolster your position about Grace; and, the Law. Whatever it is I hope that you will approach this section of study with prayer; and, a careful examination of the text of the Bible so that you will be convinced not by me; but, by the word of God; and, the Holy Spirit. If we are ignorant of the text and what it says or how the terms are used the enemy can and will use it against us for his purposes. Let's begin.

The term "grace" appears 122 times in the text of the King James Bible between Matthew; and, Revelation. Many of these are the primary passages focused upon by Christians when discussing the "Grace vs. Law argument."

Some of these however are seemingly ignored. Romans 6:14-15 serves to construct what appears to be a dichotomy; and, this becomes the very natural normal knee jerk reaction I often encounter from most Christians. For those who have not examined the entirety of the Bible about "grace" and who have not been good "Bereans" the meaning and purpose of "grace" has been tortured, perverted; and, is used repeatedly to bludgeon those who seek to walk as Messiah did in obedience to the Torah.

The following passages have been abused systematically for centuries by men who were untaught and untrained to teach that we have no obligation to keep the commandments; statutes; judgments; ordinances; and testimonies of יהוה.

Romans 6:14-15:        (Not 'under the law' but 'under grace')

For sin G266 shall not have dominion over G2961 you: for ye are
          not G3756 under G5259 the law,G3551 but under G5259 grace.G5485
What then? Shall we sin,G264 because we are not G3756
          under G5259 the law,G3551 but G235 under G5259 graceG5485
             God forbid.G1096 G3361

Really understanding what Paul is saying here requires several things. To begin we must ensure that we are not; untrained; nor, unstable lest we find ourselves twisting Paul. This requires that we have read completely from Genesis-Malachi and study the foundation before ever studying Matthew; Mark; Luke; and John.

The next thing is that we recognize that Scripture is the authority; not Paul. Scripture is the lens we must use to understand Paul; not the other way around. We must let Scripture define "grace" what it is; and who receives it.

Paul didn't die for my sin; or, for yours. Therefore to only allow the letters of Paul; which are only one side of a conversation to influence what we believe Grace to be; while ignoring the other 77% of the text (Genesis-Malachi) is foolish. Once we have defined "grace" using scripture; and, the rest of the New Testament in that order then we MUST examine how the term "law" appears.

I was shocked to discover that there are eight (8) different variations of the Greek term which is rendered "law" in English. I was even more surprised to discover that some NEVER refer to the Torah; one ALWAYS referrers to the Torah; two NEVER appear in the New Testament; and, the other four (4) are used in the broadest sense of the word; and, are used to mean either Torah; or, another "law" to include those which have their origins in men and not יהוה. We will discuss this in length in the chapter dealing specifically with "the law."

Not knowing which variation Paul is using has caused millions upon millions of Christians; Jews; and Atheists alike to misunderstand what Paul is saying. Many have been led astray by those who were untaught and untrained. Do not fall by the wayside because of the craftiness of your adversary the Devil. He uses man's ignorance against them in ways that are despicable.

We will start with the New Testament passage which is where most pastors are comfortable with Koine Greek; that is IF they have studied it at all. Then we will begin looking at the Koine Greek of the LXX which is where most do NOT examine.

Because the majority of preachers ignore the LXX they have an inconsistent method of exegesis when interpreting scripture because they ignore the bulk of the data contained in the 77% of the volume of the Bible that was written in the same Greek style with the same Greek terms hundreds of years before Messiah ever walked the earth in a body draped in flesh.

Remember that being under grace and being under the law are treated as being opposites.

Under Law vs. Under Grace

John 1:17:  (Jesus brought Grace; Moses brought the Law)

"For the law [ νομος : (G3551)] was given by Moses, but
          grace [ χαρις : (G5485)] and truth [ αληθεια : (G225)] came by
          Jesus Christ." (KJV)

          * Notice that the "but" is italicized. That means it wasn't in
the original text. Moses brought law. Messiah brought law
and grace. Moses couldn't provide everything we need.
Messiah does. Messiah brings; and, directs us to what we
             need; law; and, grace.

Acts 15:11:  (Saved by Grace)

"But we believe that through the grace [ χαριτος :(G5485)] of
the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Acts 18:27(Belief is through Grace)

"And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren
wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he
was come, helped them much which had believed through
          grace [ χαριτος : (G5485)].

Acts 20:32 (The word is grace

(Torah = written word; Messiah =  living word.)

"And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to
          the word [ λογω : (G3056)] of his grace [ χαριτος : (G5485)],
which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance
among all them which are sanctified."

In Hebrew the term for "word" is "dabar" Strong's # H1697 (דבר).  It's root means to speak; to subdue; to answer, appoint, bid, command, commune, declare, destroy, give, name, promise, pronounce, rehearse, say, speak, be spokesman, subdue, talk, teach, tell, think, use [entreaties], utter.

We find it used frequently where passages indicate that this "dabar" or this "word of the LORD" actually APPEARS to men; and SPEAKS to them.We know that the book of John indicates the following:

"In the beginning was the word [ λογος : (G3056)], and the
word [ λογος : (G3056)] was with God, and the
word [ λογος : (G3056)] was God. He was in the beginning with
God. All things were made through Him, and without Him
nothing was made that was made."

Friends this "logos" or "word" was the agent of creation. It's Hebrew equivalent is "dabar" and when we check the LXX we find throughout the Old Testament that "logos" (λογος) is used repeatedly to translate the Hebrew word for Dabar. Both Messiah; and, the commandments are referred to as "the word of the LORD." You CANNOT separate them. The written word resides within the living word. The living word; whom, we call Yeshua or Yehoshua is the living reflection of what it means to keep the instructions of יהוה.

Friends if Yeshua/Yehoshua is the "word of the LORD" then I suggest you go back and read the TaNaK with a fresh set of eye to see WHO is giving instruction to the prophets of old when they insisted that the "word of the LORD appeared to them saying..." Just keep that in the back of your mind for now.

Romans 1:5   (Grace, is for Apostleship,  and Obedience)

"By whom we have received grace [ χαριν : (G5485)] and
apostleship, for obedience [πακοην : (G5218)] to the faith among
all nations, for his name, among whom you also are the called
          of Jesus Christ."

Friends there are those who teach that Paul wasn't teaching us to keep Torah. I tell you the truth; they are liars. Messiah will repay them to their face for their deceit and hold them responsible for mislead others causing them to err. The Faith of Messiah was the belief in and practice of the commandments; statutes; judgments; ordinances; and testimonies of the Elohim known as יהוה.

Romans 3:24   (Justified by grace through redemption)

"Being justified [ δικαιουμενοι : (G1344/G5746)] freely by his
grace [ χαριτι : (G5485)] through the redemption that is in
          Christ Jesus"

Unfortunately; there are many who accuse Torah keepers of seeking justification by the Law (Torah). We are not justified by keeping the Torah; we are justified through our redemption in Messiah. If we are not redeemed by Him we have no justification. Keeping Torah is about the process of sanctification; setting apart; making Holy; behaving as those who are justified behave. You do not obey to be justified; you obey because you ARE Justified. It's all about motivation. Why do you keep the Law? To make a good show? Or it is out of your great love for Him; for what He has done for you? His command of "go and sin no more" indicates that His expectation was to learn the commandments; statutes; judgments; ordinances; and testimonies and alter your behavior so you are no longer in sin.

Romans 5:15  (Grace is a gift of God)

"But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through
the offense of one (Adam) many be dead, much more the
grace [χαρις : (G5485)] of God, and the gift by grace
[χαριτι : (G5485)] which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath
          abounded unto many.

Romans 5:17  (Abundance of grace, gift of righteousness)

"For if by one man's offense death reigned by one; much
more they which receive abundance of grace
[χαριτος : (G5485)] and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in
          life by one, Jesus Christ.

According to these passages righteousness is a gift; and, grace is a gift. Has anybody stopped to consider that since the commandments ARE righteousness (Psalm 119:172) that perhaps they too are a gift? Meditate on that one.

Romans 5:20

(The Meaning of "entered" gives some clues as to WHICH
law it is referring to.)

          "Moreover the law [ νομος : (G3551) ]
          entered [ παρεισηλθεν : (G3922 [G5627])],
that the offense [παραπτωμα : (G3900)] might abound
But where sin abounded, grace [ χαρις : (G5485)]
          did much more abound"

Friends this passage is difficult and needs to be examined more closely than just in the English. To begin with if you look it up in say Blue Letter Bible.com you will discover that is doesn't say "the law entered" but rather "law entered" and the real clue is HOW it entered. The Greek term we find in this passage is G3922.

          G3922 (παρεισέρχομαι) pareiserchomai;
          par-ice-er'-khom-ahee. From G3844 and G1525
to come in alongside, that is, supervene additionally or
stealthily: - come in privily, enter.

Friends the Written Torah didn't come in alongside Messiah and materially change the situation. It was already in existence. The written Torah didn't supervene; or, come in stealthily; it was already well known there was a set of laws given to Israel by יהוה

What DID come in alongside what already existed; what did supervene additionally; what did come in stealthily was the Oral Torah. Sadly the majority of Christians are so woefully ignorant about its existence; what is contained in it; and, how it Impacts Judaism that frankly it is embarrassing. Just know that this passage is NOT referring to "the law of Moses/instructions of יהוה."

This other "law" which came in stealthily did so in order that the "offense" might abound. This term is (G3900) (παράπτωμα) paraptōma pronounced "par-ap'-to-mah" meaning:

A side slip (lapse or deviation), that is, (unintentional) error or
(wilful) transgression: - fall, fault, offense, sin, trespass. This
          term came from G3895.

          G3895: (παραπίπτω) parapiptō pronounced "par-ap-ip'-to"
to fall aside, that is, (figuratively) to apostatize: - fall away.

Friends, apostasy is the departure from the truth. Watch the five (5) part video series I have produced on apostasy by clicking "HERE." This "law" which came in alongside was a departure from the truth. It was responsible for the corporate apostasy of many that followed it instead of following the instructions from יהוה. Keep this in the back of your mind. We will discuss it again later. For now lets keep moving.

Romans 5:21  (See how Grace is attached to righteousness)

"That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might
grace [χαρις : (G5485)] reign through righteousness unto
eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

Notice that sin and death are set on contrast to righteousness and eternal life. The opposite of sin; is obedience. Friends Psalm 119:172 indicates that all the commandments are righteousness. Grace rules and reigns through obedience. There is an intimate connection between "grace" and "obedience." Those who are obedient desire righteousness; and, to walk in it. They also obtain eternal life. Messiah wants all of our hearts; all of our souls; all of our minds. He cannot have them if you refuse to walk in the commandments because they do not rule you. If you are not ruled by righteousness; then you are ruled by sin.

Friends I know this sounds hard; I struggle with it myself. But it is the truth. The New Testament does say however "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens [empowers] me." Philippians 4:13. Friends the purpose of the Holy Spirit is to actually assist us in being obedient; and, to desire to be obedient.

Romans 11:5       (Election is by Grace)

"Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant
according to the election [ εκλογην : (G1589)] of grace."
          [ χαριτος :  (G5485)].

Friends those who find grace ARE elect. Their is an intimate connection between the saints; and, being elect; because they are synonymous.

Romans 11:6-   (Grace not Works)

"And if by grace, [χαριτι : (G5485)] then is it no more of
          works: [εργων : (G2041)] otherwise grace [χαρις : (G5485)]
is no more grace [χαρις : (G5485) ]. But if it be of works,
[εργων : (G2041)] then is it no more grace [χαρις : (G5485)]
otherwise work [εργον : (G2041)] no more work
            [εργον : (G2041)].

Friends I would like to remind you that Paul is difficult to understand. We are "saved" by grace. Keeping Torah doesn't "save" you; it does however serve the function of sanctification; it will set you apart

I would like to remind you that what we see today in modern Judaism with those who are observing Rabbinic Law via the Talmud; and, Mishnah (what is Rabbinic) is NOT the same thing as keeping Torah. Orthodox; Conservative; and, Reform Rabbis will argue that Talmud; and, Mishnah ARE Torah. I tell you the truth; they, did NOT come from the Mouth of יהוה!!!

Often the Talmud and Mishnah are in agreement with the Torah; however, that does not make them equal. What sets them apart are the places where they contradict; and, are in disagreement with the words of יהוה.

The reason it is so important to understand this is because many accuse Jews falsely; not understanding that they do not need to stop obeying Torah. They simply need to recognize the authentic version of the Messiah; and, obey the statutes; commandments; judgments; ordinances; and, testimonies of יהוה

A Messiah who says "I came to do away with my Father's Law's" is actually a FALSE MESSIAH. Which is why those who know what the Prophets teach reject Christianity's Messiah.

Friends when we get our doctrine right; then they will see him. Just like my Father always used to tell me "worry about yourself first." Christianity has been so preoccupied with trying to convert Jews that they failed to ask the question; "Does a Jew need to convert?"

Should you be so inclined I would suggest you do a word study on the following terms "convert;" "converted"; and "conversion." The term convert appears twice (2); converted nine (9) times; and conversion appears once (1). Don't forget to examine where those which appear in the Greek New Testament also appear in the LXX. What is more fascinating is the underlying Hebrew term used for the term "convert;" and "converted."

Turn with me to Isaiah 6:10 please:

"Make the heart of this people dull; and their ears heavy, and
shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their
ears, and understand with their heart, and return and be healed."

The King James Bible renders this term we see here as return a different way. It is rendered "convert" the Hebrew term is H7725 (ושׁב) "and return" the "vav/wav" makes the term "and return." The Hebrew term for convert is "shub" pronounced "shoob." This happens to be the EXACT passage Messiah Himself quotes in Matthew 13:15; alludes to in Mark 4:12;  and John 12:40. It is the same passage quoted in Acts 28:27 by Paul when he address the leaders of the Jews quoting it only after those who reject the message and were disbelieving were departed.

In Psalm 51:10-13 King David writes:

"Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take your
Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me by your generous Spirit. Then I will teach
transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to
          You."

Again we see the term "shub" which subsequently appears 1056 times in the Hebrew TaNaK. Repentace is the THEME of every prophet who was sent by יהוה. Every last prophet; all of them were calling Israel to repent; and, return to the instructions given by יהוה. All of them prophesied that unless there was repentance there would be destruction. It is no different from Messiah's message to repent and return. Turn with me to Matthew 18:1-3:

"At that time the disciples came to Jesus saying, 'Who then is
greatest in the kingdom of heaven?' Then Jesus called a little
child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said 'Assuredly, I
say to you, unless you are converted and become as little
children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the
greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever receives one little
child like this in My name receives Me."

Did you see it? "CONVERTED?" This Greek term Strong's # G4762 Strepho (στρέφω) means to twist; to turn around; or reverse. There is an action here that most miss. Messiah CALLS the child; who then stops what he/she was going; responds obediently; and, comes to sit listening to Messiah teach.

In Judaism there is a concept of "hearing and obeying" in fact there is a prayer based upon it. My wife and I teach our children to "Shema" Hear and Obey. The other thing to consider is that children need to be instructed. Children who are good receive instruction; children who are not rebel. Which one will you choose to be?

Think of the Psalm which says "train up a child in the way he should go; and, when he is old he shall not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6) We too are to be converted. The Psalms tells us what converts us; it is the Torah itself. Psalm 19:7:

"The Law (Torah) of the Lord is perfect converting the soul."

Friends, the Torah instructs us what our "works" should be. Our works do not save us; but, they are evidence of our faith. If you have faith; and, do not have works your faith is actually DEAD. Don't take my word for it; just read James 2:17-2:26.

Is it possible to have work without faith? Absolutely! When say; a Muslim circumcises their sons; do they have faith in Messiah? NO! Are they not keeping a commandment of the Torah? YES! That is a "work." I'm going to assert that they will reject a majority of the commandments we are supposed to be keeping because they do not have faith that saves; nor do they have the Holy Spirit; or, a relationship with the Messiah.

If a Muslim abstains from eating what יהוה calls abomination do they not have a work that is set apart? Absolutely! Do they have faith in Messiah? No! They lack faith; and, because they lack faith they will not honor all the "works" which those of faith do. Their "work" won't cancel out all the other unrighteous works they participate in.

If a person on their own does not lie; steal; murder; or keeps the commandments of יהוה because they believe them to be moral do they not have works of righteousness? Absolutely! However without faith in Messiah they cannot; they will not; seek to walk as He walked. Without faith they cannot; they will not; have the Holy Spirit who guides us into all truth. They will fail to have a desire to be obedient to the proper instructions; and, lacking grace which we desperately need.

Romans 12:6   (Spiritual gifts are also a matter of Grace)

"Having then gifts differing according to the grace
[χαριν : (G5485)] that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us
prophesy according to the proportion of faith"

Galatians 2:21    (Righteousness is by Grace not Law)

"I do not frustrate (G114) the grace [χαριν : (G5485)] of
God: for if righteousness [δικαιοσυνη : (G1343)] come
by the law [νομου : (G3551)] then Christ is dead in vain.

Which Law? In the chapter on "What Up with the Law" we will be discussing how there are actually eight (8) different forms of the Greek word "nomos." When we look into a concordance it will always show G3551 "nomos" listed for the Greek term in the New Testament when we see the word "law" in English. However when you physically check each passage you will find other forms than just "nomos." There is a REASON there are variations.

The assumption is that is always means "Torah" however (2) two of these forms never appear in the New Testament; (2) two NEVER refer to the Torah; (1) ALWAYS refers to the Torah; and, the other forms are used in such a broad way that they can mean ANY LAW; not just Torah. For example the broad usage which we see used in this passage can mean "Roman law; or, any law, in any nation." It doesn't always refer to the Torah delivered to Israel by Moses.

Again "the law" or rather "the Torah" doesn't make you righteous; it sanctifies you; and, sets you apart. The real work of making all of us righteous comes from what Messiah did by being the perfect sinless sacrifice to atone for the sins of Israel; and, the many, many Gentiles who would be called out from among the nations to become grafted into (adopted) into the congregation called "my people."

Galatians 5:4  (Falling from Grace)

"Christ is become of no effect [κατηργηθητε : (G2673)]
unto you, whosoever of you are
          justified [δικαιουσθε : (G1244) by (G1722
          the law [ νομω : (G3551)] ye are fallen [εξεπεσατε : (G1601)]
          from grace [ χαριτος : (G5485)]."

Friends this particular form for "law;" which is "nomo" happens to be the exact form which ALWAYS means the Torah. There is ZERO wiggle room with this particular form. Every time it appears in the LXX it ALWAYS is used to mean the Torah. On the surface it seems to indicate that those who have a relationship with the law have fallen from grace. In fact; this passage is used exactly in such a manner when most Christians attempt to justify NOT keeping the law.  They also use it to attack those who DO keep Torah; accusing them of falling from grace. If you haven't heard it yet; just expect it. You will hear it; it's inevitable. It will come from friends; family members; and, even co-workers; it will come from other "Christians;" and even from "Pastoral Staff."

The key here folks is the term "justified." Friends not everyone who seeks to obey Torah is justifying themselves by their observance. There are some who in their zeal to be obedient to the Torah seek justification because of their behavior. The problem is that in this case you had better not miss any of them.

Remember; there are 613 commandments! Some are for men; some are specifically for women; some are for Kings; some are for priests; some are specifically for lepers; some are for farmers; and, some can only be performed within the Temple which is not in existence today. I assert to you there are more laws in the city where you reside that tell you how to drive; or, park your car then apply to you; and, I in the bible. Why then are we content to submit ourselves to a body of law that is significantly more vast; while we rail against keeping a ridiculously abbreviated set of laws from the creator?

I can't speak for anybody else; but, when I personally am focused upon walking in the commandments I'm not doing it to be justified. My motivation is love. It is out of great love for the one who bleed for me; and, died for me that I seek to become more like HIM. I strive to be Holy as He was through the process of sanctifying myself through the truth just as He did. When it comes to being justified; I rely on Messiah for that. You should too.

Friends I promise you that on our own there is nothing good; or, redeeming about ourselves. In fact we are worthless without Him! We do not keep Torah to be saved. Keeping Torah is EVIDENCE of your faith! You DO what you BELIEVE!!! Why do you think those who are of the Islamic faith are so willing to destroy the lives of others; and, often themselves in the process? Because they have faith in their belief system!

When you recognize that you have been grafted into Israel; and, that the Law was given for all Israel you recognize it is for you as well.

However; when you adhere to a belief system that says "I'm separate from them (Israel); those are for the "Jews;" and, I'm not a Jew; or, an Israelite; I'm still a Gentile;" you will respond by thinking (in error) that you have zero accountability to those laws. Again this comes from not having read the TaNaK (Old Testament) completely; and, studying the History of Israel given to us. It also is a product of failing to study what the Prophets say about Messiah regarding his MISSION; and, how we are called out from among the nations. It comes from NOT studying the New Testament in its entirety and just taking sound bytes from Pastors who are untaught themselves!

For some of you who still think you are Gentiles I tell you the truth to be Gentile means to be OUTSIDE of the covenants of promise. Just read Ephesians 2:11-13.  Paul himself indicates that BEFORE when you "once Gentiles...at that time" you were:
  • without Christ (Yeshua Ha Moshiach)
  • being an alien from the commonwealth (CITIZENSHIP) of Israel
  • a stranger from the covenants of promise (notice the plurality)
  • having no hope
  • and without God in the world
I already know someone is going to point out Ephesian 14-16 which it speaks of:

"breaking down the middle wall of separation, having abolished
in His flesh the enmity, that is the law of commandments
contained in ordinances...thereby putting to death the enmity."

Because of this I'm going to briefly address it and give you a link to Tim Hegg's Article about this very topic which you SHOULD READ.

If you read the TaNaK from cover to cover you will find ZERO ordinances which assert we are to have enmity towards others; in fact we are instructed to love our neighbors. Additionally the term used for "ordinances" in this passage (δογμασιν) "DOGMASIN" is NEVER used in the Greek Language (of the LXX) to describe the Torah. NEVER!!! Not once; zero, zilch, nada! It only appears 12 times in the LXX and each time is used to describe the commandments of men.  Lastly the greek phrase for "middle wall of separation" which many erroneously teach was the middle wall in the temple separating the court of the gentiles from the rest of the temple is never used in ancient documents to actually speak of the wall in the temple but rather the additional laws which had been enacted by the Rabbis to keep Jews from breaking God's law. You can read more about it by following this link:

Friends even Paul recognizes that just because one is born Gentile they don't have to stay that way. In Judaism it is also understood that one can convert. In fact Messiah himself said "we must become converted!" Have you never read the Psalm which reads:

"The Law of the LORD is perfect converting the soul." (Psalm 19:7)

The Torah; and, it's instruction are meant to help convert us from death to life; from unbelief to belief; from unclean to clean; from wicked to righteous; from evil to good; from profane to holy! It is not the Jew which needs conversion; but, rather WE need conversion. We need conversion from a lifestyle that ignores the instruction of the true and living God to a lifestyle that embraces what Messiah Himself embraced; taught; and, lived as an example for us to follow.

If you think breaking Sabbath; eating what יהוה calls abomination; and, ignoring the statutes; commandments; judgments; and ordinances of יהוה is going to create jealousy in those who are Jews you had better rethink your strategy.

For those of you who are Jewish by birth; and, are having an issue with what I am saying/writing I encourage you to reread the account in Exodus; and, examine again how a "mixed multitude" came out of Egypt along with Moshe (Moses). The instructions were given to them as well and you are commanded to treat them; just as first born children. You are to treat them as Israelite as well; not, as Goyim. Even Ruth; a Moabite, says the following:

"where you go I will go; where you lodge I will lodge; your
people will be my people; your God will be my God."
          (Ruth 1:16)

Friends if you were born Gentile; but, believe in Messiah (Yeshua) then you had better ensure you are not participating in behavior which Messiah himself would call offensive. If you were born a Jew please understand me clearly; believing in Yeshua does NOT mean you stop being Jewish. HE was Jewish. He also obeyed the Torah. He calls ME to obey it as well; just as He calls you to obedience to the instructions of the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob.

Ephesians 1:7     (Forgiveness of Sins)

"In Him we have redemption [απολυτρωσιν : (G629)]
through his blood, the forgiveness [αφεσιν : (G859) ]
          of sins, [παραπτωματων  : (G3900) ]
according to the riches [πλουτον : (G4149)]
of his grace [χαριτος : (G5485)].

Ephesians 2:5  (Saved by Grace)

"Even when we were dead [νεκρους : (G3498)]
in sins [παραπτωμασιν : (G3900) "offenses"]
hath quickened us together [συνεζωοποιησεν : (G4806)]
with Christ, by grace [ χαριτι : (G5485)]
ye are saved [σεσωσμενοι : (G4982)].

Ephesians 2:8   (Saved by Grace through Faith)

For by grace [χαριτι : (G5485)]
          are ye saved [σεσωσμενοι : (G4982) G5772
through (G1223faith (G4102) ; and that not of yourselves :
it is the gift of God:

Colossians 1:6     (Grace of God in Truth)

Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth
forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it,
and knew the grace [χαριν : (G5485)] of God
          in truth [αληθεια : (G225)].

Friends I would like you to notice that the grace of God is IN something. It is IN "truth." Do you recall what the Bible calls "truth?" Messiah is called "truth;" and, so are the "judgments" (Psalm 119:30; Psalm 119:43). The Torah itself is called "truth" (Psalm 119:142). The Commandments are called "truth" (Psalm 119:151). By these things we are sanctified (John 17:17)

"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."

Messiah Himself gave us the example doing it himself. (John 17:19)

"And for their sakes I sanctify myself that they also might be
          sanctified through the truth."

The very fact that these commandments; statutes; judgements; ordinances; and, testimonies were given to all Israel; to whom we have been adopted (grafted) into as a GIFT from God Himself because of our Faith in Messiah IS A FORM OF GRACE IN ITSELF. For if we did not have them; Messiah could not have sanctified Himself; nor, would we be able to. Without them we would utterly perish; having no hope; and, no Messiah whom to follow showing us the right way to walk.

Colossians 4:6    (Carefully manage your speech: prepare
                             with prudence)

Let your speech be always with grace [χαριτι  : (G5485)]
seasoned [ηρτυμενος : (G741)] with salt [αλατι : (G217)] that ye
may know how ye ought to answer every man.

The phrase "seasoned with salt" can literally mean to season with salt
but it can also mean "to prepare carefully." This makes more sense
due to the fact we "may know how ye ought to answer every man."
If we have studied; then we are able to give a defense or an answer for just about anything.

Titus 2:11-13       (Grace brings salvation)

For the grace [ χαρις : (G5485)] of God that bringeth
salvation [ σωτηριος : (G4992)] hath appeared (G2014) to all
men, Teaching [ παιδευουσα : (G3811)] us that,
          denying [αρνησαμενοι : (G720)] ungodliness [ασεβειαν : (G763)]
and worldly lusts [επιθυμιας : (G1939)], we should live
          soberly [σωφρονως  : (G4996), righteously [ δικαιως : (G1346)] and
godly [ευσεβως : (G2153)], in this present world;  Looking for
that blessed [μακαριαν : (G31070] hope [ελπιδα : (G1680)], and the
glorious [δοξης : (G1391)] appearing [επιφανειαν : (G2015)] of the
great God and our Savior [σωτηρος : (G4990)]Jesus Christ...

 Titus 3:7  (Justified by Grace)

That being justified [δικαιωθεντες : (G1344)]
by his grace [χαριτι : (G5485)]
we should be made [γενωμεθα : (G1096/G5638)]
          heirs [κληρονομοι : (G2818)]
according to the hope of eternal [αιωνιου : (G166)] life.

Please note that Titus indicates how we are justified. We are not justified by the Torah; but, rather by Grace. Just because we are justified by Grace does not mean that grace nullifies every word that proceeded from the mouth of God (like the Torah)! This is so that no man may boast!

Hebrews 4:16      (Throne of Grace)

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of
grace [χαριτος : (G5485)] that we may obtain
mercy [ελεον : (G1656)], and find grace [χαριν : (G5485)]
to help in time of need.

Hebrews 10:29  (The Spirit of Grace)

Of how much sorer [χειρονος : (G5501)]
          punishment [τιμωριας : (G5098)], suppose [δοκειτε : (G1380)]
ye, shall he be thought worthy [αξιωθησεται : (G515)],
who hath trodden under foot [καταπατησας : (G2662)]
the Son of God, and hath counted [ηγησαμενος : (G2233)]
the blood of the covenant [διαθηκης : (G1242)],
wherewith he was sanctified [ηγιασθη : (G37)],
an unholy thing [κοινον : (G2839)],
and hath done despite [ενυβρισας : (G1796)]
unto the Spirit [πνευμα : (G4151)] of grace [χαριτος : (G5485)]?

There are times I personally wish this passage and the one prior to it
weren't in the New Testament. I feel these are probably two of the
most frightening of all verses in the Bible. I'm going to assert to
you that the Spirit of Grace IS the Holy Spirit.

James 4:6   (Grace to the Humble)

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the
proud [υπερηφανοις : (G5244)], but giveth grace [χαριν : (G5485)]
to the humble [ταπεινοις : (G5011)].

What does it mean to be humble? Have you ever done a word study on what the Bible has to say about it? Perhaps its about time you did. My suggestion is to examine the Greek term in the New Testament; then go find it in the Septuagint (LXX). Find where else it appears in Greek. THEN ask yourself; what Hebrew word is this translating? Search it out. THEN go examine where else THAT word appears. If you do that; then I promise you; the understanding of what it means to be humble will not be lost upon you. You will have an understanding that cannot be taken from you.

1 Peter 1:2  (Sanctified by the Spirit unto OBEDIENCE)

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the
strangers [παρεπιδημοις : (G3927)] scattered throughout Pontus,
          Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
Elect [εκλεκτοις : (G1588)] according to the
foreknowledge [προγνωσιν : (G4268) of God the Father,
through sanctification [αγιασμω : (G38)] of the Spirit,
          unto [εις : (G1519)] obedience [ υπακοην : (G5218)] and
sprinkling [ : (G4473)] of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto
          you, and peace, be multiplied.

Notice the connection between sanctification and the Spirit. Messiah spoke of sanctification and that He Himself was sanctified through the "truth." That same spirit that dwelt within Him allowing Him to choose rightly can live within us aiding us to also choose rightly. This spirit is one that leads us to be obedient

If you "feel" that the spirit is telling you that you don't have to keep the statutes; commandments; judgments; ordinances; and, testimonies of (יהוה); then friends it might as well be telling you to break them. I assert to you strenuously that the spirit you are "feeling" isn't the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit will NEVER tell you it is OK to sin. It will NEVER tell you it's OK to violate the instructions of God. THAT my friends is a spirit of error; and if you follow it you will find yourself following doctrine of demons; ones which are seeking to sift you as chaff is sifted from the wheat. It is seeking your destruction. Many today lack the discernment to recognize the difference between THE HOLY SPIRIT and a spirit. Sometimes the difference is so self evident that the distinction is shocking; other times it is so subtle that there is difficulty in judging the difference.

Friends; we need to be very careful; for we were warned that even the workers of the adversary can transform themselves into ministers of righteousness.

(Grace is prophesied of in the TaNaK)

1 Peter 1:9-10 (Grace is prophesied of in the TaNak)

"...the salvation of your souls. Of this salvation the prophets
          have inquired [εξεζητησαν : (G1567)]
and searched diligently [εξηρευνησαν : (G1830)],
          who prophesied [προφητευσαντες : (G4395)]
of the grace [χαριτος : (G5485)]
          that should come unto you:

If GRACE was prophesied then shouldn't we be able to find more
information about GRACE in the TaNaK? Come along with me
into the next chapter as we examine Grace in the text of the
TaNaK; that is if you dare.

Once you know the truth you cannot turn back. Messiah said that
the truth would set us free. Remember what the Bible calls the
truth? It will set us free. Come lets us test further this notion of
grace not requiring us to keep the commandments of God. You
may find you have been misled all along. The real question is this.
Once you are faced with the truth what will you do with it?

  1. Hey Jerri Thank You! Don't forget there are nine other chapters before this one. Some are challenging and arguably not as interesting but its time that we viewed Paul properly. Today there are those calling him a false teacher saying he taught against Torah and I hope to help people to see that Paul wasn't teaching against the instructions of the Father; but, was directing us towards obedience. We forget that he is difficult to understand. The other thing is that we need desperately to understand what the Father's real will is for our lives and I hope by the time I finish posting all the chapters that people will be more equipped to drawn near to Him in obedience as we become more like Him.
